Hope the best for you!
I can speak on the Gastric Bypass portion as I have had this done as well. It's all the dopamine levels that were perked up by food cosumtion needing
somthing else to get them flowing again. Some people become complusive shoppers, some people gamble, some people become alchoholics, some people
don't have an issue.
I got into shopping a bit and video games more. I didn't feel the compulsions bad but every once in a while I would think, as gay as it sounds, "I
WANT TO BY SOME CLOTHES!" which made sense as it is since I could finally fit into store bought stuff.
The key seems to be find somthing to raise the levels up that is not damaging (wether physically or financially). I don't know how far out you are
with surgery (had mine 12/07) but I don't seem to have any tendencies for things like that anymore.

Good luck man. If you don't mind me asking, are you getting assistance with it or just quitting on your own?

Good for you, man. I had to bite that bullet a long, long time ago and it's worked out pretty well for me. If I can answer any questions or help in
any way, just shoot me a message.

I know about this all too well. I've watched my older brother nearly destroy his life by drinking. He's now 45 years old and still struggling with
addiction. Alcoholism is a disease. It will never just go away.If you truly are an alcoholic, you will have to fight this disease your entire life. Get
Help,it's too hard to do it on your own. Bill W. will welcome you in his house with open arms.My brother goes to AA several times a week.
I'm also watching my best friend practically drink himself to death. I don't even like to go out and drink with him anymore due to him drinking
himself sick...and not even being able to get drunk anymore. It hurts me too bad to be around him.I love the guy,but he won't listen to anyone talk
about his drinking problem. He pretends that everything is just fine, but it's not... and it kills me to see my friend this way.
It's great that you have been able to see that you have a problem and are willing to get help for yourself. Do it,get help and stick with it.. Good
luck to you man... I wish you the best with your recovery.

I stopped drinking on 10-28-07 and haven't looked back. I struggled after the initial excitement wore off. I couldn't figure out how to celebrate
anything. I went to an AA meeting and it wasn't for me. Nothing was fun, ever. I then decided to train with my new dog for a half marathon. The only
thing I could look forward to was my long run on Sunday. There were times where is was 15 degrees out and I would still run for 2 hours. Didn't care.
Bit by bit, I got happy again. It was tough on my kid and my wife but in the end it is one of the best decisions I ever made.
I only want success, happiness and health for you. We are all here for you and please keep us posted.

I wish you nothing but the best man. I hope you can stick with it and get to a place where you are happy and sober. There are many people out there
that should do the same, some of my friends are those people and some of them won't listen. Its nice to see someone who is stepping up to the plate
and willing to try. Best of luck brother and keep us posted on everything.

I'm getting therapy, and a few folks have offered to bring me to meetings. I definitely plan on checking that out. I don't think the whole
religious aspect of AA is for me really, but we'll see what they've got to say.
Thanks everyone!

wish the best for you man......sober is always a step in the best direction for anyone. No matter who you are, if you drink/used to drink, there's
usually so many bad experiences that become of it, you gotta make changes, whatever they may be
record collectors are pretentious assholes

Went to my first meeting last night. I actually kind of enjoyed it a little. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I got a chip for my first 29
days.
