I don't even own a dog and I know they do. If you behave in a sad manner around a dog they lick your face to try to cheer you up.

I think they do. I've seen my last dog when someone was in a sad situation. He began to nudge with his nose and lick the hand as if to say let's talk.
It was weird.
Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.
