Week 3 of running
I feel fucking awesome. I can do 3km now without stopping and am running 3 to 4 days a week. I've got a playlist of tunes that go from fast, hard
punk to chilled out raggae just to keep me moving at different cycles.

Organized runs are alot of fun. I highly recommend doing a 5k race when you are ready.

Not sure that i'm ready for a 5k race yet but I will be in a few months I bet. What do you wear for sneakers? I'm having a bit of knee pain and I
think it's my shoes. I'm wearing new balance cross trainers.

This should help quite a bit. The way your foot arches is the biggest factor in determining proper shoes. Function over flash.

Go to a running store and get them to check you out and tell you what type of shoe is for you.
Cushion
Stability
Motion Control.
Once you get the info, you can go to a less expensive store and get the right "type".

Two comments...
1) Be careful with distance. I got a nasty stress fracture running with an Ipod since it distracted me... I went from struggling to do 2 miles to
doing 6 miles literally overnight. I guess this is what legitimate marathon runners mean when they talk about going to a different mental place. At
the same time, keep up the good work, and congrats on the distance!!!
2) CR83 and barcode are totally right about the shoes... get a pro at a legit store to fit a shoe to your arches. After I fucked myself up, I found
out you should be able to get good orthopedic inserts for about $50, which might be a good alternative (or maybe better alternative, since they fit
your feet perfectly).
Again, congrats! Just be careful and take care of yourself.

Thanks guys.
Got a new pair of kicks yesterday and took them out for a test drive. I had to throttle back at some point as I noticed the new shoes had a lot more
"spring" to them than my cross trainers.
Feeling much better, overall, about myself. I think i've lost a few pounds but my endurance is getting much better.

Lifting light free weights after runs and on off days. Want to tone not bulk. 20 pounds per arm.

Killing the 3km at this point. My birthday is tomorrow and my wife bought me some running shorts, shirt and socks. My mother in law got me a good
pair of shoes a few weeks ago as an early bday present.
Haven't noticed much weight loss but I think because of my major Thyroid issues it may take a bit more time. I am however feeling like I have way
more energy and am in a better mood most of the time, not getting as stressed about things either.

Update.
I've moved to running at the gym on a treadmill and am doing 20-30 minutes depending on the day. I'm working on weights as well and have noticed some
significant changes in my body. Still not cut but again, I have major thyroid issues that make weight loss difficult for me but I am noticing better
definition.
Going to the Gym 3 days a week and walking with my wife on off days. Paying more attention to amounts of protein consumed and am feeling great.
