Thorp and Sailor's Grave Board

fill this in peeps ..

forsaken - 6-22-2005 at 04:50 AM

I'm just wondering if I am the youngest person here who has been going to shows for the least amount of time ...

so can everyone do me a favour and tell me how old they are and the first show they went to.

I'm just interested in the demographic of this board, it seems (juding by the stories people tell on here) everyone here has been into punk, hardcore or whatever for a lot longer than me.

I'm 21, first show was in november 1998 ... just local bands.

Your turn ....

Unbound - 6-22-2005 at 05:31 AM

I'm 24. My first concert was Kiss when I was around 9, with Faster Pussycat and Slaughter. Needless to say I have cool parents. First hardcore/punk show I think was All. I'm not too sure on the year, 1993 maybe. I was listened to the music for awhile before I even knew what shows were honestly, and then that show totally made me love seeing punk and hardcore music in a live setting.

JawnDiablo - 6-22-2005 at 08:26 AM

I am 30 and have been going to shows since I was 14. first show i ever saw was nightmare on 69th street with slayer motorhead and overkill on mischief night in 1988

BDx13 - 6-22-2005 at 08:27 AM

i'll be 31 in a few weeks. i went to my first concert when i was 13 or 14 - van halen's monsters of rock in 1988 with dokken, kingdom come and the scorpions. \m/ my first show was later that year... bad brains at revival in philly. ...if i remember correctly!

DAK - 6-22-2005 at 09:06 AM

Ha. My first show was Van Halan in 1984 when I was 12. My mom took me and my cousin. My first club show was in 1989.

brianm - 6-22-2005 at 09:54 AM

32 warzone 7" record release show

CR83 - 6-22-2005 at 09:57 AM

29 now, first show was Samhain with the Minutemen in 1985 in Chicago with my cousin. I was 10. I had no idea who they were and I didn't like them. About a year later I was big Misfits fan.

gavin - 6-22-2005 at 10:15 AM

first show was with my parents when i was about 7
saw kiss and judas preist

first show on my own was ozzy and metallica. not sure what year it was. it was when master of pupets just came out i think. maybe before that. i forget

first real show was that same year or maybe a little later. motorhead, the she males and anvil bitch at the troc

im thinking these shows were in 1986 but i could be wrong

moron - 6-22-2005 at 10:24 AM

Im 25, and my first concert was Nine Inch Nails in 95 or 96 when they toured with David Bowie. I won the tickets on the radio and my mother let me go. If it werent for that, Im not sure when my parents would have let me go to a concert. They were pretty protective of me.

I didnt really get into hardcore or metalcore type stuff until late 97, and I didnt go to my first show until 98 I think. It was a Stillborn Fest at the El N Gee in New London, CT. I got a great introduction to hardcore. Some guy came running across the pit and slammed into me like a linebacker which sent me flying into the merch tables. Pretty sweet.

vince - 6-22-2005 at 11:03 AM

First show was the Dead Kennedys and Raw Power at City Gardens.
It was cool...Jello Biafra kicked me in the face and I got a fat lip.

Ah the revival in philly. I was at a show in the early 90s at that place and some band maced the audience, and a statue fell on this chicks head....i cant remember what bands played, only the mace....if you've never been maced, then you don't know what you're missing...
wait a minute'
it was Life Of Agony, the cops kicked them offstage for noise curfew or some shit, the band macing was Buzzoven I think....

i liked and still like that era of Metallica. with Cliff. After that, nail the coffin shut....

vince - 6-22-2005 at 11:28 AM

I was at the Life of Agony/Buzzoven show. I always thought one of the guys from Christ was spraying the mace.
Buzzoven was great..singer was breaking beer bottles and jabbing himself in the forehead.

BDx13 - 6-22-2005 at 12:08 PM

i always liked revival. i feel like i saw just as many shows there as i did at unisound during those years. good venue.

JawnDiablo - 6-22-2005 at 12:16 PM

I have no idea what's in that place now. It was a steak restaurant catering to the $$$ crowd for a while. I saw Stinking Lizavetta in there in 2000 or so upstairs and there was some high falootin place downstairs.
Upstairs at Nicks was cool too. The beer was cheap as hell and they had a big Ramones rocket to russia thing painted on the one side,

sinister - 6-22-2005 at 01:26 PM

35, been going to shows since way back in '86. First ones would be stuff like Ozzy, Metallica/Anthrax, Crumbsuckers.

vince - 6-22-2005 at 01:28 PM

I think this is what is there now...

BDx13 - 6-22-2005 at 01:44 PM

didn't brotherhood play there in like '90? and vince was the only one who knew the lyrics so he got up on stage and sang along?

xsharpx - 6-22-2005 at 02:00 PM

27 I will be 28 in September
first show was Ramones with my father when I was 9 years old at CBGB's while I was living in Rochester, NY and my dad is originally from Brooklyn. He decided to take a day off and show me around his childhood neighborhood... its the first and only piece of his childhood that he has ever shown me

vince - 6-22-2005 at 02:19 PM

The Accused and Brotherhood . Ron the singer did a stage dive so I jumped on stage and yelled "Dedication Makes the Difference" a few times.
Ken Mertz was there too.

rubeboy - 6-22-2005 at 02:21 PM

First show was some local metalbands in a rollerrink in 85, first punk show was GBH/The Accused at Pizzaz in Philly in 86 or 87.

Discipline - 6-22-2005 at 02:26 PM

28, first show was Metallica in 1990. First punk/hardcore show was Random Killing/Bunchofuckingoofs/Forgotten Rebels and a couple other bands back in 91 or 92.

vince - 6-22-2005 at 03:27 PM

Duane, we played at Pizzaz 2 with swiz and supertouch. From what I remember the place had a disco look about it. I think the tiles on the floor were in the pattern of a piano keyboard.

I'd love to go back to some of thos clubs and see what is there now.

JawnDiablo - 6-22-2005 at 04:44 PM
