the words they'd like to use out of fear of the label disapproving. Again, I'm not saying this DEFINATELY happens, 'cause for all I know it's just a
coincidence that these bands don't use swear words in their lyrics, but I can't help but wonder.
3) Historicity. Looking beyond your personal religious convictions and music taste, look at every band mentioned in this thread. If you removed
their existance from the history of hardcore completely, would it matter at all? Granted, you could say the same for 95% of hardcore bands, but like,
imagining the history of punk without people like Bad Brains, Minor Threat, Cro-Mags, even less earth shattering groups like Sheer Terror, Rites of
Spring, or hell, even someone like Earth Crisis or Hatebreed. The bottom line here is that there has never been any truly historically significant
Christian hardcore band. Think about it: not one. That has to tell you something, if in the approx. 25 years of hardcore as a viable genre, not one
really important band has fallen under the Christian label. Do you REALLY think that's gonna change with Comeback Kid or Zao?
So those are the facts, plain as the nose on your face, why Christian hardcore is stupid. I'm not EVEN gonna get into the ideas of a built in
audiences, the sheer inappropriateness of discussing something as important and deeply personal as religious convictions within the punk idiom, the
generally confused content of most of those band's lyrics, the inherantly contradictory nature of religion and punk, the fact that the very nature of
"Christian hardcore" exists as an ALTERNATIVE TO, and not something IN CONJUNCTION WITH hardcore OR the fact that those bands just flat out fucking
suck and will never be more than the safe watered down PG versions of the real thing.
I respect people's religious beliefs. I think the idea of religion is interesting. Friends, family, fellow man, believe in what you will, but I
refuse to respect something whose very nature shits on something I hold dear. I'm not talking about Christianity here, I'm talking about Christian
hardcore. The fact that anyone takes these bands seriously just makes hardcore look like a fucking joke. |

I agree totally on BCH..I was tricked into going to a C.H. show a few months back and the singer from one of the bands told everybody to close there
eyes and raise there hands if they were christians...Me I just sat there with my friends and watched as everybody closed there eyes and raised there
hands...After the show we were followed in the parking lot to my friends car, and the guy handed us a bunch of pamphlets and papers and preached to
us....

What kind of idiotic question is that? First of all, what the fuck
does it have to do with this thread topic? Secondly, just like anybody else, SxE kids can do hatever the fuck they want. Maybe if they're running with
some kind of thug crew they might get their ass beat by the kids who feel like they were betrayed (which I think is fucking stupid), but aside from

Christianity isn't a cult that you can't leave. For many people, the only thing keeping them Christian is a feeling, a belief system. Many people that
were Christian when they were younger change as they grow older, and decide to stop practicing.
If you do drugs, you're not edge anymore.
If you decide to stop following Christianity, you're not Christian anymore
I say, kick preachy bands out of hardcore. I don't want some kid in my face flashing x's and telling me how straight his edge is
anymore than I want someone telling me to believe in jesus.
